Coggeshall Farm Museum seeks a creative, forward thinking, and highly motivated person to serve in a work study position in Bristol, RI. Under the general supervision of the Executive Director at Coggeshall Farm Museum, the Sustainable Gardening assistant will become part of the team maintaining our historic gardens at Coggeshall Farm Museum. This position will assist with garden planning, recruiting and retaining volunteers and maintaining the care and maintenance of the garden.  

In 2020, Coggeshall Farm Museum and Old Sturbridge Village entered into an innovative management partnership that leverages the capacity of OSV to support the administrative functions of CFM. Located on 48 acres of coastal farmland in Bristol, Rhode Island, CFM offers a glimpse of life on a salt marsh farm in the late 18th century, heritage breed animals and historic approaches to farming and gardening, and a diverse and changing landscape.

Qualifications

  • Interest in historic gardens, education, sustainable agriculture, or a related field.
  • Interest in developing sustainable plans for farm gardens.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences.
  • Must be organized as well as flexible, and able to be self-directed in prioritizing tasks and work.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and experience working on a team.
  • Must have the ability to flexible with the unexpected challenges.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office. 
  • Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following

  • The Sustainable Garden position will build and improve upon the annual garden plan and execution of the plan as part of a team.
  • Design and implement garden education opportunities for guests. 
  • This position will assist with creating, growing & evaluating the heirloom garden plan. Work with staff to assist with the creation of virtual content to send out garden updates.
  • Promote diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.
  • Recruit Volunteers for gardening projects.
  • Other duties as required.

Transportation
Coggeshall Farm is not easily accessed by RIPTA. Transportation by car is necessary.
